7th Grade
Seventh grade science is a course that introduces students to the concepts of life science. The class follows the California standards and will work towards implementing the New Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and will incorporate Common Core elements into lessons. The topics of instruction include: scientific investigation, cell biology, genetics, changes over time, structure and functions in animals and plants, diversity of life in various kingdoms, human body systems and sexual health education including HIV/ AIDS prevention education.
8th Grade
Eighth grade Physical Science is a one year course that introduces the student to the basic concepts of Physical Science. This class will begin to implement Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) over the course of the year and also incorporate Common Core elements in the lessons. Physical Science topics studied will include: the scientific method, measurements in science, motion, forces, structure of matter, astronomy, chemical reactions, chemistry of living things, periodic table, density, buoyancy, investigation and experimentation. Along with these topics, students will also participate in lab activities and projects throughout the year. The last quarter of the school year is predominantly group projects such as, building roller coasters, egg drop, rockets and finally the regatta.
